Is Fall the Best Time to Buy a New Kia? What Greenwood Shoppers Should Know

Best Time to Buy a Car: Why Fall Is Prime Time for Kia Shoppers

when is the best time to buy a car?

Ask ten different people when the best time to buy a car is, and you’ll get ten different answers. End of the month. A rainy Tuesday. Right before closing time. Some of that advice is sound, and some of it is just folklore.

What does hold up is this: fall is one of the strongest times of the year to shop for a new car, and there are real, practical reasons why. If you’ve been thinking about a new Kia, here’s what’s happening at dealerships right now and how to make the timing work in your favor.

The Model Year Changeover Works in Your Favor

Every fall, the next model year starts arriving on dealer lots. At Quality Kia of Greenwood, that means 2027 models are rolling in, including the redesigned 2027 Kia Telluride and the all-new 2027 Kia Seltos.

When new models show up, the remaining 2026 inventory needs to make room. That’s often when you’ll see some of the most attractive pricing and incentives of the year on outgoing models.

So which should you buy? It depends on what matters most to you:

  • Go with the 2026 model if the features you want are already there and value is your top priority. A 2026 Kia still comes with Kia’s full factory warranty, and it’s the same vehicle it was in the spring, often at a better price.
  • Go with the 2027 model if it’s a full redesign with upgrades you actually care about, like a new powertrain, a hybrid option, or updated tech. In that case, the newer model may be worth it, especially if you plan to keep the car long term.

Our sales team can walk you through the differences side by side so you aren’t guessing.

End of the Month, Quarter, and Year

There’s some truth to the end-of-the-month advice. Dealerships work toward monthly, quarterly, and annual sales goals, and manufacturers often tie incentives to those periods.

Fall stacks several of these together. The end of September closes out the third quarter, and October through December leads straight into year-end, which is traditionally one of the busiest buying seasons of the year. That doesn’t guarantee a specific deal on a specific day, but it does mean more offers tend to be in play.

Holiday Sales Events

From Black Friday through the end of December, many manufacturers roll out holiday offers such as special financing rates, cash incentives, or lease specials on select models. These change month to month, so check current national offers and our new vehicle specials before you visit.

One tip: if you have your heart set on a popular model or a specific color and trim, don’t wait until the last week of December. The most in-demand vehicles tend to sell first.

Don’t Forget About Your Trade-In

Timing matters for your current car too. Every month you wait adds miles, and when the calendar flips to a new year, your vehicle officially gets a year older on paper. Trading in before either of those milestones can help you get more for it.

The South Carolina Advantage

Here’s one perk that isn’t tied to the season. South Carolina doesn’t charge traditional sales tax on vehicle purchases. Instead, buyers pay a one-time Infrastructure Maintenance Fee of 5 percent, capped at $500.

That cap makes a real difference on larger purchases. Whether you’re buying a Seltos or a fully loaded Telluride, the fee tops out at the same $500. Your trade-in value is also subtracted from the price before the fee is calculated.

When Waiting Doesn’t Make Sense

The “perfect time” to buy isn’t always about the calendar. Sometimes the smartest move is to buy now, such as when:

  • Your current car needs a major repair. Putting thousands into an aging vehicle rarely pays off if you’re planning to replace it soon anyway.
  • The exact Kia you want is on the lot today. Waiting a few weeks for a slightly better deal isn’t worth it if the vehicle is gone by then.
  • Your family’s needs have changed. A new baby, a new job, or a longer commute can make waiting impractical.
